Montreal, March 3, 2016 – Air Transat is proud to announce that its head office building, located in the Montreal borough of Saint-Laurent, is among the greenest head offices in North America as selected by Corporate Responsibility magazine.
Air Transat adopted an environmental policy in 2007, and since that time has intensified efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. In 2011, it received the first-ever LEED-EB® Platinum certification awarded in Canada, and in 2014, it became the first North American carrier to complete the first stage of the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA), the gold standard for airline environmental best practices.
This latest recognition is the outcome of a competition for companies committed to sustainability principles, not only in their business operations but also when it comes to management of their head offices.
“For several years, Air Transat has worked on multiple fronts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions,” said Jean-François Lemay, General Manager, Air Transat. “This award is recognition for our efforts to improve our environmental performance, which we have been making in all of the company’s business sectors, including in our aviation operations as well as our administrative offices.”
A number of initiatives introduced by Air Transat helped it rank among the top head offices in North America, alongside major U.S. corporations. They include installation of a solar wall on the west-facing side of the hangar adjoining the head office, replacement of all fluorescent and incandescent lighting by LED lighting, recycling and composting programs, availability of electric-vehicle charging stations, and landscaping using clover instead of grass, which has enabled substantial savings in water consumption.
Corporate Responsibility magazine is the leading North American publication devoted to the corporate responsibility profession, with a print circulation of approximately 20,000. Each year, it publishes its prestigious 100 Best Corporate Citizens list.
