Montreal, December 2, 2014 – On December 1, 2014, Transat launched the inaugural Sun Auction, a spectacular event where users were able to tweet bids for their next vacation. In all, 20 Sun vacation packages departing from Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec City were up for grabs. With the #SunAuction, Transat offered “sun for everyone.”
The initiative attracted more than 82,000 unique visitors, generating more than 6 million potential impressions and nearly 47,300 bids during the 12-hour event.
Users were invited to visit transatsunauction.ca on Cyber Monday and place their bids through Twitter. Each auction lasted just half an hour and happened in real time. On average, trips for two went for as low as $1,766.
In total, $35,097 was raised in support of SOS Children’s Villages Canada, an organization that comes to the aid of 80,000 abandoned and orphaned children worldwide. For the last 60 years, SOS Children’s Villages Canada has responded to the many fundamental needs of children by offering warm, affectionate, secure and permanent family environments.
“By offering this auction on Twitter, we’ve really mixed business with pleasure,” explains Genevieve LeBrun, Air Transat’s senior director of marketing. “We’re supporting SOS Children’s Villages Canada, a cause that has been very dear to us since 2009, while also presenting Canadians with the country’s first-ever auction on Twitter.”
